Akita

Sometime in the aftermath of World War II, an American soldier returned home with a dog from the mountains of Japan, the Japanese Akita. Today, there are two separate strains of Akita. A Japanese variety, known as the Akita Inu or Akita Ken; and an American variety, called the American Akita or simply Akita. All countries, except for the United States and Canada, consider the two versions be distinct breeds. But the US and Canada consider them be varieties of the same breed.
