The Australian Kelpie is a medium sized sheep dog from Australia. It comes in two different varieties: The Show Kelpie and the Working Kelpie. Show Kelpies are selected more for their appearance while Working Kelpies are selected for capability and ability of the dog. Kelpies are agile dogs that are wonderful with kids. They come in a variety of colors including black, red, blue, cream, and tan.
The Australian Kelpie descends from a breed of black dogs called Colleys or Collies, which pre-date today's Collie breeds. They also share a small percentage of their genes with Australian Dingoes.
