The Field Spaniel is a breed of dog which was developed in England at the end of 1800s. It was bred to be an all-black dog and is considered one of the first breed of dogs to be developed for the sole purpose of being show dogs. Hunters often preferred hunting dogs have spots of white or light colors so they can be easily spotted, so the Field Spaniel was not popular for hunting, although it retained the skills to do so. As pets, Field Spaniels are smart, cheerful, and easy going. They make great companions and are affectionate with family and children. They are friendly but can by reserved around strangers.
