The Jagdterrier or German Hunting Terrier originated in the Bavarian region of German around 1900 and were bred to hunt badger, fox, and wild boar. In the United States and Canada, they have been used to hunt squirrels as treeing dogs. They have terrier ancestry and were likely developed from breeds like the Tan Wire Terrier and Fox Terrier.
