It is one of four Sennenhund breeds along with the Entlebucher Mountain Dog, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Appenzeller. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is known for its combination of strength and agility. They were developed as all-purpose workings dogs that were used for pulling carts, herding cattle, and guarding livestock. They have a gentle, cheerful, and bold personality.
