The Pekingese is an ancient breed of dog with a history dating back over 2000 years. They originated in China where were favorite companions of Chinese royalty, princes and Buddhist monks. Pekingese are known for their long, flowing coat of hair. The Pekingese dog is intelligent but stubborn and can be difficult to train. They are very loving and protective of their families and make for great watchdogs and pets, although care needs to be taken around small children (who may provoke them) and other dogs.
