The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, or PBGV, is a breed of dog that originated in the Vendée district of France where they were bred to hunt small animals in the brambles and rough game of the area. “Petit” means small, “Basset” means low to the ground, “Griffon” means wirehaired and “Vendéen” is the city where they originated, so Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is the “Small, low to the ground, wirehaired dog from Vendéen”. They have a history that dates back to the 1500s in France. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen is often called the “happy dog” and is known for its cheerful personality.
