The Perro de Presa Canario or simply Presa Canario is a large breed of dog that originated in Spain and the Canary Islands. They are believed to have been developed by crossing Molosser-type dogs with the Majorero, a dog native to the Canary Islands. The Presa Canario was originally bred as a cattle dog for working livestock and have also been used for dog fighting. Presa Canarios are calm, confident, and devoted. They are obedient with family members but can be aggressive with strangers and other dogs, so ample socialization is a must. They make for outstanding and intimidating guard dogs.
