The Puli is a small to medium dog breed that originated in Hungary and were used for both guarding and herding livestock. They were possibly developed from ancient Hungarian Shepherd Dogs. Puli dogs are known for their dreadlock-like, corded coat. They are usually black in color but can also be found in shades of cream, gray, or white. Despite their appearance, Puli dogs are active and energetic dogs that require ample exercise on daily basis. They are intelligent dogs and do well with obedience training. Their background also makes them outstanding guard dogs and they are very protective of their owner. They are similar looking to another Hungarian dog breed, the Komondor.
