The Saluki is a breed of dog which likely originated in Fertile Crescent region of the middle east. They are an ancient dog breed that may have existing for thousands of years and have descended from the first dogs. There are drawings of dogs with a similar appearance to Salukis on Egyptian Tombs and on carvings from the Sumerian people that date back to 7,000 B.C.E. The Saluki is a dog that is built to run and they require plenty of exercise on a daily basis. They are devoted but reserved companions who can be shy around strangers, so socialization is recommended to prevent skittishness. They thrive on human companionship and make loving and gentle companions for those who can give them the space they need. They are also known as the Persian Greyhound.
