The Whippet dog and medium sized sighthound dog that originated in England. As it might appear by their appearance, Whippets were originally Greyhound dogs but were considered too small for hunting. Instead, they were separated from the main Greyhound population and these smaller dogs were bred together and used to hunt vermin, rats, and rabbits. Since then, they have become popular in dog racing where they are still used today. Very fast, they can reach speeds similar to that of the larger Greyhound. As pets, Whippets are gentle, quiet and rarely bark. They require a ton of exercise but also do well living within a family household. In fact, they are often described as "couch potatoes" and often prefer to sleep on their owner's lap.
